History of the Village
Show and
BIG GIG
Those of you familiar to the
Broad Town will know that we held a traditional village show each summer, with the aim to raise money for local organisations and charities. Unfortunately, in 2005 the committee
lacked sufficient support and the show did not take place that summer.
Following donations to local organisations and charities, the remaining
funds were split between the Horse Show Committee and the Village Show
Committee, the Parish Council to be custodians for the latter.
Late 2005, a new committee formed to
resurrect the show in 2006. However, it quickly became obvious that the
finances would not support a full show, and therefore the aim was to swell the coffers sufficiently to get the Broad Town Village
Show back on the annual calendar. It was decided that a village event
would best fit the spirit of the show, whilst generating the income to
provide a platform for future years - hence The Broad Town Big Gig! The
inaugural Big Gig, held On
the 20th July 2006, raised nearly £1,800 pounds of which some was
donated to worthy causes within the village. The remaining money
was been added to the Village Show funds should the traditional show be resurrected at some point in the future.
To date we have donated approximately £7,300 to charity and bought a
stage cover for the show.
The Big Gig has
proven so popular that it has become a firm fixture in the annual
calendar, with attendances growing year on year. Long live the Big Gig!
